Apple has confirmed a delay in the launch of its next-generation CarPlay system, known as CarPlay 2, by removing references to a 2024 release from its website. Originally promised for 2024, the updated webpage no longer specifies a timeline, marking an official postponement. This development was first reported by MacRumors and has since been acknowledged by Apple in a statement to 9to5Mac.

According to Apple, the company remains committed to collaborating with “several automakers” to develop the next-generation CarPlay experience. The updated system aims to build on the success of the original CarPlay by offering deeper integration and customization, allowing automakers to incorporate their unique brand identities and visual designs. Apple has indicated that individual automakers will announce specific details about compatible models as those vehicles approach release.
Throughout 2024, Apple’s CarPlay website maintained that the first vehicles supporting CarPlay 2 would debut that year. Even as late as December, there was no indication of a delay, leading to speculation that a last-minute announcement might be forthcoming. However, the year concluded without any updates or model launches, marking a departure from Apple’s pattern in previous years of narrowly meeting similar deadlines.

Before Apple removing the “First models arrive in 2024” information on its official website.
Despite the lack of a definitive timeline, signs suggest that Apple and its automotive partners are continuing to work on the project. Some have suggested that Apple could enhance the existing CarPlay system by incorporating features from CarPlay 2, allowing current users to benefit without needing to upgrade their vehicles. For now, though, consumers can only wait for further announcements regarding the delayed system’s rollout.
