Much of the marketing for Daredevil: Born Again has centered on the return of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, with a splash of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher for good measure. But the show appears to also be pulling in some non-Netflix MCU characters into its orbit, with one such addition being… Jack Duquesne?
Yes, if you remember Tony Dalton’s charming, dopey sword pervert from Hawkeye, he’ll be showing up in Born Again, making him the second MCU transplant alongside Mohan Kapur’s Yusuf Khan. Per Variety, Dalton’s got a two-episode stint as Jack Duquesne during the show’s first season. Initially in Hawkeye, he was Kate Bishop’s stepfather-to-be, with the show teasing him as a criminal mastermind Kate and Clint were going up against. In the end, it turned out Kate’s mom Eleanor was actually the one throwing in with Fisk, and Jack was actually kind of a lovable goofball? Last we saw him, he’d just used his sword-fighting skills on the Tracksuit Mafia and perked up when a LARPer friend of Clint and Kate’s asked if he had any interest in the activity.
Why isn’t Jack in something like, say, a second season of Hawkeye? Marvel’s TV head Brad Winterbaum told Entertainment Weekly the studio is considering second seasons for several one-and-dones, so it’s not off the table. The conversation mainly concerned Agatha All Along, but Winterbaum’s logic applied more generally to Marvel’s limited series: the “right idea” needs to come along for it to be made. The TV division is “looking for opportunities” to bring back characters like Agatha and the Hawkeyes, while also committing more to TV beyond limited series. “As we develop things for the future,” he said, “I think they’re going to be designed to be multiple seasons, have more of a pattern, and be able to be released annually.”
If a second season of Hawkeye happens, and things align properly, it may be a way to get more Jack. Until then, he’ll be in Daredevil: Born Again when its first season premieres on March 4—hopefully he and his mustache survive whatever that show throws at him.
