Bit Reactor and Respawn’s turn-based tactics game will have its grand unveiling at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan.
Since 2015, Star Wars has gotten a major video game from a triple-A developer on a fairly regular basis. Most of them have been from EA, and the publisher’s ready to unveil its next title for PC and consoles.
Star Wars Celebration will have a panel on Saturday, April 19 promising to reveal a the debut game from developer Bit Reactor and produced by Respawn Entertainment. The project was first teased in 2022, and all we’ve known about it is it’ll have turn-based tactics. Bit Reactor is made up of developers at Firaxis, who made XCOM and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which were turn-based and pretty good, so it’s got a good pedigree behind it. This’ll also be the franchise’s first big foray into the tactics/strategy genre since 2006’s Empire at War, which makes it even more interesting.
Bad news, though: it looks like this’ll be the only game to be featured at Star Wars Celebration, since nothing else is listed on the schedule. If you haven’t been able to keep track, there’s a few major titles we know about. Respawn’s third Jedi game is a ways off, and its first-person action game was canceled in 2024. Quantic Dream said it was still working on Star Wars Eclipse when confirming it was unaffected by recent NetEase shakeups in February, and Saber Interactive said earlier this week it’s still chipping away at the remake of Knights of the Old Republic it inherited from Aspyr. So whatever Bit Reactor’s cooking up, it may be our big Star Wars game for 2025 or 2026.
Bit Reactor’s reveal panel will run from 4:30-5:30 Star Wars Celebration on Saturday, April 19, that game will be part of our coverage at the event.
