YouTube has announced a new AI-powered feature for its Music Assistant tool, aimed at helping content creators generate custom instrumental tracks that are free from copyright restrictions. This development allows users to create unique soundtracks for their videos without facing potential copyright issues, offering a convenient and legally safe way to enhance their content.
The new tool builds upon the existing Dream Tracks feature, launched last year, and provides an improved version of that technology. Unlike Dream Tracks, which had limitations in scope, this updated AI tool is designed to support longer-form video content. It enables creators to generate personalized music tracks through a simple text prompt system. Users can input the desired music style, specify instruments, and even describe the type of video they are working on. Based on this information, the AI generates a custom instrumental piece tailored to the video’s tone and purpose.
For example, a user might request a “relaxing song for a study video,” and the AI will produce music that fits this context. Once generated, the track can be directly added to the user’s video, creating a seamless and personalized audio-visual experience. This removes the need for creators to search for royalty-free music or worry about future copyright claims, streamlining the production process and enhancing creative freedom.
Here’s how to use it:
-
Sign in to YouTube Studio using a web browser.
-
In the left-hand menu, click on Creator Music.
-
On the Music Assistant page, select Create.
-
Enter a description in the prompt—include details like the desired mood, instruments, and the type of video you’re making.
-
Dream Track will generate four instrumental options based on your input.
Note: It may take a few moments for the tracks to be created.
-
To preview a track, hover over its album art and click Play.
-
If you find a track you like, click the Download button to save it for use in your video.
In addition to this new music generation capability, YouTube is also reportedly working on further tools aimed at creators of shorter content, such as YouTube Shorts. One of the upcoming features being explored is automatic music synchronization, which would align music with the video content in a more precise and efficient manner. This would further simplify content creation for users producing short-form videos by ensuring the soundtrack matches the pacing and mood of the visuals without manual editing.
